Phonautograph

The phonautograph is an early scientific instrument invented in 1857 to visually record sound waves. It used a vibrating membrane attached to a stylus to trace sound vibrations onto a soot-covered surface, making it the first device to capture sound graphically. It played a key role in the development of audio recording technology.
